Congratulations to Bonsai Jiu-Jitsu! Second Place Team Overall, IBJJF Chicago Fall Open!

This past Saturday, Bonsai Jiu-Jitsu Team took Second Overall as a Team at the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s (IBJJF) Fall installment of the Chicago Open! It was a hard fought tournament on all fronts by some of the regions best competitors.

Our BJJ Competition Team came in to the tournament with just 25 competitors (5th in terms of the number of competitors registered by Team), but managed to place 2nd in the Overall standings. Out of 25 competitors, our team took home 21 medals!

Merchant Adams – 1st Place Purple Belt Senior 2 Open Class & 2nd Place Featherweight

Dave Pena – 1st Place Blue Belt Master Featherweight
Putri Sukmawati – 2nd Place Blue Belt Female Master Featherweight
Grant Nidley – 1st Place Blue Belt Master Super Heavyweight & 3rd Place Open Class
Robin Weerts – 3rd Place Blue Master Middleweight
Lariza Fenner – 1st Place Blue Belt Female Middleweight & 1st Place Open Class (tie)
Taylor Biagi – 1st Place Blue Belt Female Featherweight & 1st Place Open Class (tie)
Brad Schmickley – 1st Place Blue Belt Medium Heavyweight
Dominic Garrini – 3rd Place Blue Belt Middleweight
Razvan Gavriluti – 2nd Place Blue Belt Featherweight

Congrats to everyone who competed and represented the Team! Great job to all of the competitors and the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team and a great way for many of us to wrap up the rest of the competition calendar year. We know that the BJJ Competition Team will use this as motivation and momentum for the competitions coming up early next year!
